About Equine Dental Services
Based in Somerset, UK Equine Dental Services cater for a wide range of clients and horses from all disciplines. We mainly cover the South West but also hold clinics in Derbyshire and the Channel Islands as well as working further afield in Holland and Kenya.
Equine Dental Services have four equine dental technicians who have both passed the rigorous British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) examination and have many years of experience within the field.
The practice is fully insured and our technicians are happy to work alongside the veterinary profession in order to give the best possible service to our equine patients and their owners.
All of our technicians reguarly attend courses, workshops, and conferences to keep up with new developments in the field of equine dentistry.
At Equine dental we are fully committed to providing a high quality service, the welfare of the horse is paramount and we create a treatment plan accordingly.
Toby Lee BAEDT
Director
Toby has been brought up around horses all his life. Having started at his parents riding school ‘Mendip Riding Centre’, he rode at various levels from pony club, British pony teams, British juniors, and British young riders through to 3* three day events having represented his country at prestigious events such as 2* Saumur France, 2* Punchestown Ireland and 3* Boekelo Netherlands. He gave up his eventing career to focus on his dentistry but still tries to make time to have the occasional days hunting when time allows.
Toby attended the Academy of Equine Dentistry, USA in 1995 and then went on to pass th widely recognised and rigorous BEVA/BVDA dental examinations 2004. He is a full member of the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians (BAEDT). He works closely with all his client’s vets, believing that a good working relationship with the veterinary profession is vital to the success of good equine dentistry.
Toby lectured at Hartpury College on the BSc (hons) Equine Dental Science and Fd.Sc Equine Dental Studies (SW). He also lectures internationally.
Toby is married to Lena Lee, who is a qualified Master Saddler. They have two little girls Izzy and Nelly Lee.
Henry Billson BAEDT
Director
Henry has been around horses all his life and has been lucky enough to spend much of his early years riding in the beautiful surroundings of the Quantock Hills in Somerset.
He enjoyed eventing and hunting working with young horses and ponies before obtaining a degree in Agriculture and Business Studies at the Royal Agriculture College.
Having always been keen to pursue a career with horses and after observing some equine dentistry it wasn’t long before he had accepted into the American School of Equine Dentistry.
After returning from America in 1999 he started an apprenticeship with Toby Lee and by 2005 had acquired the skills and experience necessary to pass the widely recognised and rigorous BEVA / BVDA dental exam.
Henry is a full member of the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians (BAEDT), and also believes that it is vital to have a good relationship with the veterinary profession and for both parties to work together for the good of the horse.
Between 2007 and 2014 Henry was a lecturer on the Equine Dental Science degree corses at Hartpury College. More recently Henry has been involved with practical tuition at British Equine Veterinary Association courses, as well as, with final year vet students at Langford, Bristol University.
Outside of work Henry enjoys spending time with his wife and two children at home and still manages to ride regularly.
Ryan Withey
Apprentice Dentist
Ryan started his apprenticeship with Equine dental services in 2021 having come from a back ground in racing working for multiple trainers in the south west along with running a breaking and pre training business with his partner Sarah.
Ryan was also a jockey having had 130 rides and 13 winners he suffered a bad fall which led him to assess his career choices.
He attended numerous training courses at which he met Steven Mosley. I’m between these courses Ryan spent time out treating horses with other BAEDT members gaining valuable experience. He continues to attend regular industry led training courses whilst working towards his BAEDT exam.
In his spare time Ryan enjoys Playing rugby, milking at home and spending time with his family.
Steven Moseley
Dentist
Steve has grown up around horses from a young age. He was lucky to be able participate in Pony Club, British Showjumping where he gained the NAF 5 Star Award, and then onto British Eventing where he competed up to Novice level. Whilst eventing he went to work for Olympic Rider Matt Ryan for a season.
On leaving school Steve attended Hartpury College where he completed a Level 3 Diploma in Equitation. Whilst studying at Hartpury Steve became interested in equine dentistry and spent some time on work experience with us. On completion of his studies at Hartpury in 2015, Steve began his apprenticeship with Equine Dental Services and started to work towards the BAEDT exam, including attending various industry led training courses. Steve successfully passed the rigorous BAEDT exam in March 2019.
In his spare time Steve enjoys riding his own horse and spends a lot of time mountain biking with his dog Rocco.
Ian Roff
Dentist
Ian Roff has grown up around horses and enjoys riding and competing in his spare time. Ian joined equine dental services in 2010 on placement from Hartpury College whilst studying for his degree in equine dental science.
Ian achieved his dental degree in 2012 and has passed the rigorous BAEDT/BEVA Dental technicians exam.
