About Equine Dental Services

Based in Somerset, UK Equine Dental Services cater for a wide range of clients and horses from all disciplines. We mainly cover the South West but also hold clinics in Derbyshire and the Channel Islands as well as working further afield in Holland and Kenya.

Equine Dental Services have four equine dental technicians who have both passed the rigorous British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) examination and have many years of experience within the field.

The practice is fully insured and our technicians are happy to work alongside the veterinary profession in order to give the best possible service to our equine patients and their owners.

All of our technicians reguarly attend courses, workshops, and conferences to keep up with new developments in the field of equine dentistry.

At Equine dental we are fully committed to providing a high quality service, the welfare of the horse is paramount and we create a treatment plan accordingly.

Toby Lee BAEDT

Director

Toby has been immersed in the world of horses since childhood, growing up around his parents’ riding school, Mendip Riding Centre. His riding career progressed through various levels, from Pony Club and British Pony Teams to British Juniors and Young Riders, culminating in competing at the 4* level in three-day events. He proudly represented his country at prestigious international competitions such as the 3* Saumur in France, 3* Punchestown in Ireland, and 4* Boekelo in the Netherlands. While Toby has shifted his focus to equine dentistry, he still enjoys the occasional day of hunting when time permits.

In 1995, Toby attended the Academy of Equine Dentistry in the USA. He furthered his qualifications by passing the widely recognized and rigorous BEVA/BVDA dental examinations in 2004 and is now a full member of the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians (BAEDT). Committed to ongoing learning, Toby regularly attends continuous professional development courses both in the UK and internationally.

Toby has in the past also shared his expertise as a lecturer at Hartpury College on the BSc (Hons) Equine Dental Science and Fd.Sc Equine Dental Studies (SW) programs, and he continues to lecture internationally.

Furthermore, Toby is a co-director of Equine Blades Direct Ltd, an innovative equine dental manufacturing company. This company designs, develops, and manufactures cutting-edge equine dental equipment that is widely used by practicing equine vets and dental technicians worldwide.

He places great importance on collaboration and maintains close working relationships with his clients’ veterinarians, recognizing that a strong partnership within the veterinary profession is crucial for successful equine dentistry.

On a personal note, Toby is married to Lena Lee, a qualified Master Saddler, and they have two children, Izzy and Nelly Lee. In his leisure time, Toby enjoys skiing, surfing, and crafting his own cider (Old Jollop Cider). He also hosts a small, family-friendly festival on their farm, the Sand Cider Festival.

Henry has been around horses all his life and has been lucky enough to spend much of his early years riding in the beautiful surroundings of the Quantock Hills in Somerset.

He enjoyed eventing and hunting working with young horses and ponies before obtaining a degree in Agriculture and Business Studies at the Royal Agriculture College.

Having always been keen to pursue a career with horses and after observing some equine dentistry it wasn’t long before he accepted his place at the American School of Equine Dentistry.

After returning from America in 1999 he started an apprenticeship with Toby Lee and by 2005 had acquired the skills and experience necessary to pass the widely recognised and rigorous BEVA / BVDA dental exam.

Henry is a full member of the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians (BAEDT), and also believes that it is vital to have a good relationship with the veterinary profession and for both parties to work together for the good of the horse.

Between 2007 and 2014 Henry was a lecturer on the Equine Dental Science degree corses at Hartpury College. More recently Henry has been involved with practical tuition at British Equine Veterinary Association courses, as well as, with final year vet students at Langford, Bristol University.

Henry is also a co-director of Equine Blades Direct Ltd, an innovative equine dental manufacturing company. This company designs, develops, and manufactures cutting-edge equine dental equipment that is widely used by practicing equine vets and dental technicians worldwide.

Outside of work Henry enjoys spending time with his wife and two children at home and still manages to ride regularly.

Equine Dental Technician

Ryan, is dedicated and valued member of the Equine Dental Services team.

Ryan comes from a racing background, having worked for various trainers in the Southwest. Alongside his racing career, he successfully managed a breaking and pre-training business. He had a successful racing career with 130 rides and 13 winners, but a significant fall unfortunately ended his jockey career and prompted him to explore new paths.

In 2020, Ryan decided to pursue a career in equine dentistry. After extensive research, he enrolled in the UK-based Trident training scheme. During this time, he gained valuable experience treating equines under the supervision of experienced Equine Dental Technicians.

In 2021, Ryan was offered an apprenticeship with Equine Dental Services SW Ltd. While training under the continuous supervision of our team, he also attended various continuing professional development courses provided by the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians and the Worldwide Association of Equine Dentistry.

We’re proud to share that in 2024, Ryan successfully passed the prestigious BEVA/BVDA dental exam and is now a member of the BAEDT.

In his spare time, Ryan enjoys playing rugby, riding horses, and spending time with his family and friends.

Equine Dental Technician

Jack grew up around horses from a young age, learning to ride at his aunties farm. 

Whilst studying for his GSCE’s and A levels he worked his weekends and school holidays on horse racing yards.  

On completion of his A levels he went on to work full time in horse racing industry, one day whilst working on a yard, they had an equine dental technician treat the race horses on a yard, this then inspired Jack then to train as an equine dental technician. 

In 2015 he started on his path to working in equine dentistry industry enrolling on the Equine Dental Degree held at Plumpton College, as well as attending the college, he trained on a part time apprenticeship in the midlands with Mat Carter BAEDT (Midland Equine Dental Services). 

Jack started working for Equine Dental Services SW Ltd  in 2023. He then passed his WWAED Cat 2 exam in 2024, and is a valued member of the equine dental team. 

Jonny Lee

Apprentice Equine Dental Technician

Jonny started his apprenticeship with Equine Dental Services SW Ltd in 2024, continuing the family tradition established by his uncle Toby.

He actively engages in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses provided by both the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians and the World Wide Association of Equine Dental Dentistry. Complementing his apprenticeship, Jonny is also a student in the Trident Equine Dental Technician program.

Jonny has a solid foundation in equestrian sports. His mother, Emily Lee, has successfully competed and placed at the prestigious Badminton 5*horse trials, and his father, Barny Lee, also competed at the 4* level.

In addition to his equine dental technician training three days a week, Jonny is deeply passionate about British Eventing. He dedicates the rest of his week to his other passion training and competing under the supervision of his mother Emily.
